Whitby
Cricket Club has been playing at the Turnbull Ground since
1928. The ground was gifted to the town by the Turnbull
shipping family and is held in trust, overseen by the
Turnbull Ground Committee, chaired by Mr Paul Bastiman, a
local solicitor. The Turnbull Ground is half a mile from
the town centre and very well located on the main A174
road, heading northwards along the coast towards Saltburn
and Middlesbrough. The ground was left in trust for
cricket, football, hockey and other outdoor activity deemed
suitable by the trustees and presently is shared with
Whitby Town Football Club, whose first team plays in the
Unibond Premier League, which is a high level for a town of
Whitby’s size.
